About Michelle
Michelle's design work is predominantly with touring theatre, designing a combination of staging and settings that can be versatile and often needing to adjust for different venues. She enjoys working with the restrictions of touring theatre as it allows more creativity and challenges in changing locations in the script. Metaphors and symbolism are just as important as the locations required in my designs, combining realism with a non-naturalistic approach. Creating on a small scale with a small team enables a certain control over every visual aspect and brings coherence in the design.
Based in the North of England Michelle has worked with Theatre companies across the North - from Northumberland to Barrow in Furness.
Michelle is currently Northumberland Theatre Company’s in house designer and Management Associate, which includes day to day running of the company as well as fundraising and marketing. Other roles that she has been involved with are Display and Visual merchandising manager, Retail Manager, Wardrobe Supervisor, Model Maker and Wedding designer.
Michelle continues to work as a freelance designer.
